About TEPA
PURPOSE
The Texas Electricity
Professionals Association (TEPA) is a self-regulating
body aimed at standardizing processes and ensuring aggregators,
brokers, and consultants (A/B/C) maintain an acceptable
level of market knowledge and responsibility while transacting
in the marketplace. Members of the A/B/C indirect sales
channel community have come together with a common goal
to provide a forum for developing common interests and
upholding the integrity and maintaining the honor in
the business of the deregulated retail electricity market
in Texas.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
In any new and emerging
market, there are often times a plethora of new market
participants which transact in the new market. As the
ERCOT market progresses through the transition period,
there have been many “electricity aggregators, brokers,
and consultants” operating within ERCOT.
There are currently no state
mandates regulating these A/B/C third-party sales channels,
there is however an aggregators license. There has not
been a baseline established as to how customers, indirect
sales representatives, and suppliers are to interact
in the marketplace. This has produced a need for an
organization such as TEPA. The charter members of this
organization are representatives from companies committed
to furthering the deregulated retail electric market
in Texas; these companies have worked together to define
the core values of the organization. This includes the
“Code of Conduct,” standardization of applicable forms
and materials, and other items which characterize the
organization.
