Purpose

The Texas Electricity Professionals Association (TEPA) is a self-regulating body aimed at standardizing processes and ensuring aggregators, brokers and consultants (A/B/C) maintain an acceptable level of market knowledge and responsibility while transacting in the marketplace. Members of the A/B/C indirect sales channel community have come together with a common goal to provide a forum for developing common interests and upholding the integrity and maintaining the honor in the business of the deregulated retail electricity market in Texas.

Background Information

TEPA was founded by like-minded consultants in an effort to make sure that all providers of energy services were being held to the highest standards. Our association includes a majority of the active retail energy providers in Texas as well as consultants that are genuinely interested in complete and total transparency with regard to the business of providing energy procurement to customers.

TEPA was created prior to other states requiring specific licensing and bonding requirements for their consultants. Because of the tremendous communication between Voting Members (consultants) and Associate Members (energy providers), TEPA has been able to not only increase the overall validity of the Texas energy marketplace, but also been able to have dramatically fewer issues associated with the Public Utility Commission than other states around the country. The Disciplinarian Committee of TEPA acts as much as an information source as for identifying any consultant, member or not, acting in an unethical manner across the state. By enforcing the Code of Conduct that every member is required to sign, TEPA creates an alliance among what could be considered competitors so that customers can make the best decisions on who to use to help with energy procurement.

Ethical Standards

TEPA is a non-profit organization created by its members. It is self-funded via membership dues and none of its budget benefits any individual or company disproportionately to any other. To this end, there are never distributions or financial enhancements related to any of the membership at any time. Although TEPA does work with lobbying organizations related to energy deregulation, it does not provide any support, financial or otherwise, to any particular political campaign. Additionally, the organization does not engage in any activities that are not to the furtherance of the purposes of the organization.
